Delaware County Housing Coalition

Since 2002, the Delaware County Housing Coalition (DCHC) has been working to unite people from our region to help stabilize at-risk neighborhoods in the city of Chester and Delaware County, PA, in partnership with municipal agencies, residents, churches and community organizations.

Latest News & Projects

Pilot Program: Home Repair Resource

In Fall 2008, DCHC launches a pilot program to expand the ways that we serve senior and disabled citizens living in Delaware County or the city of Chester.  The program is being created in cooperation with COSA and Residential Living Options, as well as other agencies serving low income senior and disabled citizens.  Visit this site for future updates.  For more information, contact Susan Young at susan.young@delcohousingcoalition.org.

1004 McDowell Street Renovation

DCHC purchased a vacant, single family home on McDowell Street in Chester’s Sun Village neighborhood. We are overseeing renovation of the home, utilizing volunteers and contractors, as needed. When complete, 1004 McDowell Street will be offered for sale to a qualified, first-time homebuyer.  This project has been made possible by funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the city of Chester, a grant from the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Fund, and the donations of materials by area individuals.

Peoples Street & Bethel Road (Chester, PA)

– Ongoing Weed & Seed Project

DCHC recently wrapped up its third neighborhood renewal project in areas on Peoples Street and Bethel Road (north of I-95 near Chester Township) and will return to Highland Gardens in Fall 2008 to beautify streets immediately adjacent to Wellington Heights, a community now in development.  Our ongoing presence in this area is in support of Chester Weed & Seed efforts to revitalize these communities; volunteers completed painting, minor home repairs, tree trimming, street clean-up and landscaping.  (Photo left, Paula Johnson receives the 2008 Spirit of the Communitiy Award).
